Apply Advanced First Aid (AAFA) - HLTFA402B

DESCRIPTION
The outcomes of this course is to provide the student with competencies suitable for the provision of advanced first aid to casualties in given environments. Competency compromises the knowledge and skill required of the first aid personnel. These standards of performance include knowledge of, advanced resuscitation techniques, recognising substance abuse, handling and moving casualties and understanding pain.

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
The required outcomes described in this unit of competency contain applicable facets of Employability Skills. The Employability Skills Summary of the qualification in which this unit of competency is packaged will assist in identifying Employability Skill requirements.

COURSE MATERIAL
Each participant will receive a Statement of Attainment in Apply Advanced First Aid, AAFA Handbook, AART Handbook and a CPR wallet reference card.

DURATION
The approximate time required to complete this course is 24 hours and recertification is 16 hours.

TARGET GROUP
AAFA is designed for persons who have a duty of care to a large number of people, often general public, in positions such as security or management staff at shopping centres or special events, building first aid officers, sports first aid officers, etc.

PRE-/CO-REQUISITES

This unit incorporates, but is not limited to:

HLTFA404A Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques, legal responsibilites and duty of care, procedures for dealing with major and minor accidents in the workplace, infection control, first aid management procedures, use of an AED, oxygen equipment and first aid equipment, incident management procedures and more.

Apply Advanced First Aid should be assessed after achievement of the following related competency unit:

HLTFA301B Apply First Aid

RECERTIFICATION
Competency acquisition every 3 years, except the AART component which is every 12 months as per Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
