DESCRIPTION
This unit deals with the provision of advanced first aid resuscitation techniques, life support, and management of casulaty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers. This unit comprises Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (AART) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
The required outcomes described in this unit of competency contain applicable facets of Employability Sills. The Employability Skills Summary of the qualification in which this unit of competency is packaged will assist in identifying Employability Skill requirements.

COURSE MATERIALS
Each participant will receive a Statement of Attainment for Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques, an AART Handbook and a CPR wallet card.

DURATION
The approximate time required to complete the AART course is 8 hours.

TARGET GROUP
AART is aimed at persons who have access to Oxygen and/or an Automatic External Defibrillator for first aid purposes in situations where the risk of injury or work related illness in both Low and High and where Oxygen Therapy is likely to have a positive outcome on the casualty's condition.

PRE-/CO-REQUISITES

This unit should be assessed after achievement of one of the following related competency units:

HLTFA301B Apply First Aid

HLTCPR201A Perform CPR or

HLTFA201A Provide Emergency Life Support

In general it is recommended that people using Advanced Resuscitation Techniques have completed HLTFA301B Apply First Aid. However, it is recognised that some employers require staff to be able to apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques without requiring this first aid competency.

MINIMUM NUMBERS
The minimum number of persons required to hold this course is 6, however if you do not have 6 persons available, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly customer service team as we may have a suitable public course or be able to make other arrangements.

RECERTIFICATION
Competency Acquisition every 12 months as per Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

WHAT COURSE CAN I DO NEXT?
Emergency Response Training Services recommends courses such as Apply Advanced First Aid or Manage First Aid in the Workplace as suitable courses to continue training in First Aid.
